How this is worked out
Each pension is reduced for every month you start before its reference age and raised for every month you wait after it, at the rates the government publishes. The table gives the yearly amount at each starting age and the total received by several ages.
The breakeven age is the age at which a later start has paid as much in total as an earlier one. If you expect to live past it, waiting pays more.
Assumptions and limits
Amounts are in today's money and the pension keeps pace with inflation. The QPP's early reduction is taken at its largest rate for every pension. Taxes and the OAS recovery tax are left out.
